In first year, students take mathematics and computer science, along with the supporting courses in physics. Specialized courses in Optics and Photonics begin in second year, including, Classical Mechanics, Electromagnetism, Photonic devices and Current Topics in Physics. A survey course in Chemistry is also taken in second year.
In third year, students are introduced to quantum mechanics, statistical mechanics, and laser physics. Students have a variety of options for study in fourth year, ranging from electronics to fluid dynamics on the physics side. A Photonics course exposes students to applications of quantum physics to optics.
Rich laboratory experiences accompany lecture-based courses in all four years.
